Hockey Canada’s Atlantic Regional Centre, established on April 20, 1995, is both an administrative Hockey Development body and a resource facility located in Saint John, New Brunswick, serving the four Atlantic Provinces. Administratively, Hockey Canada’s Atlantic Regional Centre is primarily responsible for the coordination and support of Hockey Development Programs serving the 55,000 registered participants of the four Atlantic Provinces (HNB, HNL, HNS, HPEI). In coordinating and supporting these Hockey Development Programs for trainers, coaches, officials, players, and administrators, the approach of the Atlantic Regional Centre is to provide training and development opportunities to Program instructors. In turn, these instructors return to their home community and deliver regional Hockey Development clinics. The philosophy of “Reaching Out” creates an opportunity for a significant impact on the members of the Atlantic Canadian Hockey community through an Instructors Seminar. For example, an Initiation Program Instructor who attends an Atlantic Instructors Workshop, will return to his/her community and host a clinic that would have a minimum of 20 participants. If each of the twenty participants works with a group of twenty athletes, then the system allows us to “Reach Out” and impact some 400 participants. If all 20 instructors who attend the original Seminar deliver just one clinic, our impact “Reaches Out” to 8,000 players throughout Atlantic Canada. The HCARC facility in Saint John, New Brunswick includes: the Charles Hay Memorial Resource Library consisting of approximately 500 instructional videos, a retail outlet with Hockey Canada’s merchandise for sale, an assembly area for local clinics and special events, a display of Atlantic Canadian Hockey trophies and the administrative offices for Hockey Canada’s Atlantic Regional Centre staff. The financial support for Hockey Canada’s Atlantic Regional Centre is provided by the four Provincial Amateur Hockey Associations, the New Brunswick Provincial Government, the Saint John Jeux Canada Games Foundation. A significant portion of the financing of Hockey Canada’s Atlantic Regional Centre is generated through participant registration fees for the various Hockey Development Programs. The Atlantic Regional Centre is located at 125 Station Street, Saint John, New Brunswick E2L 4X4.
